Commercial Window Film
San Diego’s premiere “Green” Building, The Ridgehaven is a prime example of the need and practicality of our work!
Home to the Environmental Services Department, the Ridgehaven "Green BuildingDemonstration Project is one of the nation's most energy efficient dwellings. In 1999, the building received the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's first Energy Star Label for Buildings. Ridgehaven’s energy consumption is 28 percent better than the California Energy Code (2005), and the building uses half the water of a comparable commercial facility. This translates to about $100,000 in annual estimated cost savings. In 2003, the building received photovoltaic panels that produce energy from sunlight. We tinted the glass on this building and dramatically reduced the need for conditioned air. The film we install has multiple layers one of which deflects most solar heat from entering the building. Of the heat that enters a high percentage is then absorbed by another layer of the film. Film technology has come a long way. In days past, a window had to be tinted very dark to keep a high percentage of heat out. These days we can reject a very high percentage of heat and glare without diminishing the light transmission. On the other hand, some buildings have large walls of glass facing east and west that need the light as well as the heat reduced. Each building has a unique orientation and we have the experience to give you an informed consultation.
